How to find help for injured orphaned wildlife.

Ontario Wildlife Rescue (OWR) connects the public who have found injured or orphaned with Wildlife Rescue Centres across Ontario (website, email and call centre ). www.Ontariowildliferescue.ca  has been updating the website since the last baby season. Two main objectives #1 make it easier for the public get help and #2 more information for Rehabbers so they can better help out. The better the site works the better for wildlife.

For the public (finders) less places to look. On the left side the link to Wildlife Centers was removed to get people to focus on what species of animal that needs help and which Rehabbers can help.  Once the public clicks on a species button, under the map is pictures so it is easier for them to identify a specific type with out having to leave the page (if they click-off we lose a number). We have reduced it to one scroll bar instead of two).  Almost everything else the public needs is now on the “What to do page”. Links on right hand side to Transportation, Farm Sanctuaries, Lost pigeons, Parrot Rescue, Pet Turtles and even Rare Species Reporting (when they claim they saw a Cougar in Oshawa).  There is a links to MNR Tipline, Bearwise and Cruelty to Animals (Paws domestic, farm and exotic animals). Even a link to Wildlife diseases for reporting unusual dead animals (especially birds with no signs of trauma- West Nile, Avian Flu, covid). Volunteer, Contact and How to Become a Wildlife Rehabbers are now on sperate pages.

Ontario Wildlife Rescue works with over 50 Wildlife Rescue centres across the province that take in injured and orphaned wild animals. Wildlife Rescue Centres rescue, rehabillitate and release them back into the wilds.  All Centres are licensed by the Ministry of Natural Resources but get no help from any level of government. Most Centres are run by volunteers and are completely dependent on the public for support. OWR helps Wildlife Rescue Centres across Ontario with food, medical supplies, raising funds and finding veterinarians for Rehabbers (Vets for wildlife program). OWR works on behalf of Wildlife Rehabbers with the Ministry of Natural Resources. It is a volunteer non-profit Federal Corporation and is a Registered Charity.
