Protest about killing of Mally’s Raccoons by the MNR

Over half the raccoons seized by the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) have been killed according to a recent court hearing.  At the hearing the MNR said two were put down because they bit the Officers that were corralling them (no notice of rabies) and one was put down after they broke its jaw when being swabbed tested. Others have died for yet unexplained reasons. The MNR has claimed one of the reasons they raided Mally’s Raccoon Rescue was for the safety of the animals.  Yet only 40 of the 95 that were taken by the MNR are still alive the rest have died in their custody. Attempts to have an independent wildlife veterinarian check out the conditions and health of the 40 Raccoons still alive have been blocked by the MNR. Do they have anything to hide?

The protest is organized by Justice For Mally’s supporters will be taking place on Saturday December 2nd at Queens Park at 1:00 pm.  The original concerns about the safety of the Raccoons sized by the MNR has turned out to be real with more than half being killed by the Science and Monitoring Section of the Ministry. The hope is to try and save the remaining 40 from being killed by the government.

Ontario Wildlife Rescue works with over 50 wildlife centres across Ontario who take in injured and orphaned wild animals, rehabilitate and release them back into the wilds. Wildlife Rescue Centers (wildlife rehabbers) are authorized by the Ministry of Natural Resources but get no financial support by any level of government. Most are run by volunteers and are completely dependent on the public for support. Ontario Wildlife Rescue is a registered Federal Charity.
